Twisted Tribes 21 Jun
The world of Nadirim is huge, and filled with many people; although Anwar united them in one empire, they have never been all the same. Now that the empire is once again falling into pieces, tribes and smaller groups are starting to appear, with their own customs, secrets and goals…
A vast world like ours calls for a wide variety of people. You have met groups like the Inamas and the Whisperers before; but as the adventure goes on, there will be many more to come. Some will be helpful, and some will be hostile.
Creating tribes and groups of different traditions was part of making Nadirim more lively and diverse. We created background stories for mobs that you will often encounter, to show you who you are fighting and why, instead of just random assassins and bandits wandering around in the desert. Here are some examples written by Rawiya:
Headhunters are fearless women who pride themselves in tracking down their prey and collecting trophies; sometimes they are hired by someone, although they do not care for silver or gold. Most of the time, though, they walk their own path, and pick their own victims. They live in smaller groups and tribes, and sometimes hunt alone; no man is allowed to join them. Many women who run away from home for one reason or another end up with the headhunters, some for safety, some for pride, some for the thrill of the hunt.
Daughters of Amene – Tribe
The best of the headhunters gather in a smaller tribe called the Daughters of Amene; one has to go through many trials before she is accepted as one of them. They do not hunt anymore, and rarely ever fight; nobody ever witnessed their secret rituals and lived to tell the tale…
Savage bandits and ruffians living in places where no decent man would venture. They attack travelers, rob smaller villages, and fill their secret hideouts with stolen goods. They never keep the treasures for long, though; when they run out, they attack another caravan or village, and take what they need; money, food, lives…
The Ceytelon Shadows – Tribe
Not so long ago, a few bushwackers gathered in some godforsaken place and named themselves the Ceytelon Shadows. Ever since then, they have been declaring war on caravans, travelers and other bushwackers alike, robbing all of them; more and more bandits join their ranks every day. They seem to be held together by a secret, or a leader who is never seen…
As you can see, we not only created a background story for the mobs, we also added special groups, tribes or sects for them. If you meet one of these specialized mobs, it will usually mean that you are dealing with the best of the best, and you should consider carefully picking a fight with them.
We also have a few new mob groups, because it seemed like the world of Nadirim was in dire need of more spellcasters and sage type villains. Here is one of the new guys:
The Malatrian Spellmasters
These people only started to show up in the empire during the last few years. No one is sure where they came from, but they use magic that is not known to the sages of the former empire. Even their thinking is different; magic is not knowledge to them, it is a weapon, a source of power. Some whisper they came from the darkness, or beyond; many tried to spy on them, and a few lived to tell they saw nothing. Sages of the empire say the time will come when their knowledge will have to match the spellmasters’; only then will they know if they really are as powerful as they claim….
Other groups and tribes will not appear as mobs themselves, but you will encounter them following main or side quests, and learn more about them from lore items and conversations. Many of them will play an important role in the main story of the game.
Another important thing: new people in the game are bringing in new items too. As your character grows stronger, she or he will be able to acquire and wield weapons and other items that are connected to one of these groups; the stronger you grow, the better the items you can use. A rookie is probably not agile or strong enough to wield and Amene sword; but on every level you reach you will be able to match another one of the fables tribes and sects…
